As a recruiter I encourage all candidates that I speak with to keep their resume updated. There are many reasons as to why this is beneficial even if you are very happy in your current role. I think most immediately the first advantage is that it allows you to recall more details and specifics around your job responsibilities. This allows for a more accurate representation of your skills and experience as well as offering more pointed examples. If you’ve been in the same role within an organization for even 3+ years, it can be difficult to recall all the details of projects you worked on. Additionally, when your resume is accurate and updated when an exciting opportunity knocks at your door-you will immediately be prepared to either A. alter your resume to better showcase your experience for that role and/or B. present your profile to that organization. One thing that I’ve learned from recruiting is that timing is everything. So my tip to all professionals-don’t allow your resume to collect dust and cobwebs. Always keep it fresh with relevant, specific working experience.
