With every new year comes a New Year’s Resolution. Frankly, I find them quite pointless because it’s usually always “lose weight” and come by February, people are eating their left over Valentine’s candy and sulking because they’ve already failed at their attempt for 2014’s NYR.
According to Statisticbrain.com, 45% of Americans usually make a New Year’s Resolution. From that percentage, only 8% are actually successful in achieving their resolution, and 73% have infrequent success and/or failed on their resolution.
Maybe it’s the just the phrase “New Year’s Resolution” that makes people initially ambitious but later unmotivated. If that’s the case, why don’t we approach this a different way?
Instead of a personal resolution, have you ever thought on working on a professional one? What about that raise or promotion you’ve been wanting? What about expanding your network and attending more user groups? What about keeping up with the latest and greatest via blogs, forums, and books? What about your pet project on GitHub that you’ve been pushing back?
I’ve been recruiting at Anchor Point for about 5 months now, and as I’m getting more comfortable and confident in this role, I decided my mantra for this year is Conquering 2014. It gives my “resolution” more of an edge.
I want to conquer 2014 in terms of placements per month, leads generated per week, user groups I attend, becoming the trusted local market expert for all of you, and increasing that 8% statistic.
I don’t want a simple resolution for 2014. I want to… Crush it. Dominate it. Conquer it.
So tell me, how are you going to conquer 2014?
