We have all seen the rise in the mobile application space over the past decade, and I believe this is a space that we will continue to see grow.
Businesses all around Indy are developing new apps for their customers and for internal business systems. If you are looking to switch gears into another field, I suggest Mobile. With the 195k jobs added in June alone, now is the time to start looking. http://www.ibj.com/us-economy-adds-195k-jobs-unemployment-rate-steady/PARAMS/article/42322
These jobs are not only in the Private Sector but also breaking into the Public sector as well. One app that I use constantly is called ParkMobile, which allows you to pay for your parking meter from your phone! Super simple and it works on every meter in town! http://us.parkmobile.com/members/
A great way to get started is to develop an app in your free time and learn the language (iOS or Android) through trial and error. If you’re in need of inspiration, check out your local User Group MeetUps . The iOS group is called CocoaHeads and they meet on the first Monday of Each Month, http://indycocoaheads.org/. The Android Group is a fairly new group, and they meet up on the third Tuesday of each month at DeveloperTown in South Broad Ripple. http://www.meetup.com/Indy-Android-Developers/
If user groups aren’t your thing, then you can get some inspiration by checking out some existing apps.
Either way, the important thing is to get out there and do it!
