We often go through periods in our lives of feeling like we are firing on all cylinders. Where you are productive on many fronts, ahead of the anything that comes your way, and no task that is put in front of you can’t be accomplished. But usually after a week or two of this, you may go into a slump. The project you were working on isn’t going as you planned or something out of your control has gone haywire.
In my short time being a member of the working world I have come up with two tips to try and avoid this burnout that many have come to know.
1) Schedule your leisure and respect the schedule. If you can, schedule everything (even if it is just 8pm - sleep: do whatever I want). That way you have time to relax and you are not sustaining too much go-time. This can avoid long term burnout.
2) Try something like the Pomodoro Technique to make sure you are focusing in sustained bursts. Take the time to move up from your desk and get the blood flowing in your body to refresh. This avoids short term burnout.
In the up and down business that is staffing, I have found these tips to be helpful in sustaining the momentum and productivity. Having a routine that works for you can provide a consistent flow of great results so you can always be firing on all cylinders.
