I’ve been learning how to play golf (or at least how to not embarrass myself on the course) for almost a year now, and over that time, I’ve gotten all sorts of advice--Keep your head down, Bend those knees, Tighten that grip, etc. There are at least 100 things that you need to be concentrating on at once while you’re trying to “stay relaxed.” At the end of the day, the one piece of advice that’s proved to be most effective for me is simply this….. Follow Through.
It’s a simple concept, and it can advance a lot more than just your golf swing. Think about it. You know a few folks that have all of the skills necessary to excel in sales, management or whatever their field happens to be, but oddly enough, they haven’t been able to rise to the top or simply hit their numbers.
I’m willing to bet that they need to work on the follow through part of their game.
You can have the best network in town or have a voice that’s as smooth as silk over the phone, but if you can’t deliver, it’s basically useless. For a more light hearted perspective on this, I turn to one of my all-time favorite sitcoms, Seinfeld. (If you’re also a fan, you’ll recognize the scene. If not, you’ll enjoy it nonetheless)
Simply put, see your commitments through. If you said you would do it, Do It!
Whether you’re trying to hit your goals at work or trying to make better contact with the ball, remember to follow through, and success will follow.
