Transitioning into the "Real World"

Posted by

Two months ago I was walking across the graduation stage having no idea where the world was going to take me. The job market seemed like scary place and with all the stories of people finding it difficult to aquire jobs, you can imagine the anxiety I felt.

I began my search full steam in early November applying to every job I could find that resembled my background. I realized that when coming into the market, any experience is good experience. One skill that they dont neccesarily teach you in college is interpersonal communication. Getting out there connecting and networking with as many people as you can is valuable experience that directly translates to job interviews.

After many interviews, I was able to find a great oppurtunity with Anchor Point.

From here, I had to transition from waking up for 10am classes every morning stricken with senioritis, to commuting at 7am every morning working in a fast paced environment and learning more than I ever have.

As the newest member (well, until a week ago) of the Anchor Point team, I have found a place I can grow and hone my recruitment skills. The team here is invested to help me make the transition and ensure my success as a young professional.

The best advice that I can give this early in my career to young professionals is to set lofty goals for yourself. And realize that there is not necessarily a linear path to these goals. The best plan of action you can have is to have a good attitude, be willing to work hard and learn new things, and always look for oppurtunities to keep pushing and growing yourself.
